A stadium trip is mostly a series of journeys: from the airport or station to the bed, from the bed to the gates, and back again after the final whistle. That suits fans who want to leave the hotel late and walk, but who still like a station nearby for the next morning. Meliá Castilla sits slightly further out, at about nine minutes by public transport, with a pool, a terrace restaurant and rooms that suit families who prefer a calmer evening.
Airport mornings and long journeys are where transport links matter most. Hotel ILUNION Pío XII lists a short walk to the Nunciatura bus stop and good public transport to the airport, plus a bar, a restaurant and a fitness centre. InterContinental Madrid by IHG is described as a short taxi ride from Nuevos Ministerios, with an airport shuttle on its listing, which is useful when you land late or leave early. Confirm the shuttle details with the hotel before you rely on them, and keep a little time in hand on match days.
Driving is still possible, and several of these hotels list parking, which some describe as paid. Meliá Castilla, NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding, Hotel Puerta America Madrid and Érase un Hotel mention parking, while ILUNION Pío XII and InterContinental list paid parking. If you arrive by car, leave it at the hotel and use the metro to reach the ground on match day, rather than looking for a space near the stadium. Check the parking terms with the property before you book, so the car is one less thing to think about on the day.
Madrid treats football as part of the week, and the Bernabéu sits on a long avenue in the north of the city. Match days are busy, but the metro handles the crowds and the neighbourhood has plenty of places to eat before the game.
